For the last 13 years, two of Boston’s public pilot schools, Mission Hill School (grades K-8) and New Mission High School (grades 9-12), have shared the same building. Here, wellness is a part of daily life with students participating in the Farm-to-School project, a healthy-eating program that promotes consuming locally-grown farm produce.
The schools basement cafeteria was in much need of renovation. Five 7th and 8th grade students from the school’s Governing Board helped plan the cafeteria’s renovation, which included updating the old, worn, painted concrete floor and enhancing the overall aesthetics. The new design included a light grey, curved pathway running through a green blend of flaked flooring. While upper class men enjoy the freedom of the entire cafeteria, this pathway leads K-8 students to a designated lunch area.

An important factor leading toward the decision to install a Hybri-Flex EC system was that all new and renovation projects within Boston must follow the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED guidelines. Also, with the nature of the air inside a building being critical to its occupants, a system low in VOCs positively contributes to Indoor Air Quality.
